Climate change negotiations

FIELD has received a two-year grant from The Christensen Fund for activities aimed at strengthening the negotiating capacity of Pacific island countries in the international negotiations on climate change and biodiversity. Island countries, indigenous peoples and local communities in the Pacific are severely threatened by climate change, for example through sea-level rise and the impact of extreme weather events. Climate change has added a threat to the already threatened rich and unique biodiversity of the Pacific. FIELD will provide advice and support to these countries, in particular Melanesian ones, in the negotiations under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and its Kyoto Protocol and under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
