FIELD undertakes research on a wide range of issues in international law, policy and practice. We collaborate with researchers from different countries and professional backgrounds to develop creative and practical solutions.

FIELD's unique expertise and experience is recognised worldwide. FIELD lawyers publish in peer reviewed academic journals and other print media. See the Library section for further information. We regularly produce studies, legal opinions and other materials.

In 2008, FIELD conducted a study on how to link the European Union's greenhouse gas emission trading scheme to other emission trading schemes. The study, "Analysing the legal and organisational issues arising from linking the EU Emissions Trading Scheme to other existing and emerging emissions trading schemes", was commissioned by the European Commission on the basis of a competitive tendering process.

In 2008 in Uganda, FIELD reviewed the legal framework on access to environmental information and its implementation in practice. The study, "Access to environmental information in Uganda", was sponsored by the government of Ireland's programme of assistance to developing countries (Irish Aid). FIELD made recommendations on law and policy to strengthen environmentally sustainable development and good governance.
