Advice and capacity building

Our expertise in international environmental law is sought by governmental, intergovernmental and

nongovernmental organisations from around the world. Our work ranges from briefing and supporting

government delegations at international negotiations to advising community groups on how the law can

help them to better protect their environment.

Increasingly, international laws and policies are influencing the design of domestic laws. We receive

many requests from groups in developing countries for help with technical complexities of

implementing these international rules and regulations. Many of these groups have very limited

financial resources and in these cases we provide advice for free (pro bono).

"Our expertise is sought by organisations from around the world."

We organise training workshops in international environmental law, and have successfully trained staff

from the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Our courses provide

unique insights, real life case studies, interactive learning and plenty of time for discussion. FIELD staff

teach university level courses.

For example, in collaboration with Capacity Global, FIELD holds a residential course on the connection

between environment, poverty and globalisation at Ruskin College (Oxford). The course is ASET

accredited and takes place three  times per year.
