Workshop on improved policy making and negotiations on key trade and environment issues in Kenya and Tanzania: FIELD with support from the World Bank hosted two back to back workshops in Kenya (25-26 April, 2005) and Tanzania (28-29 April, 2005) on trade and environment capacity building.

Workshop on improved policy making and negotiations on key trade and environment issues in Uganda: On 13-15 December 2004, FIELD hosted a national workshop in collaboration with the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) and the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry (MTTI) of Uganda. The workshop took place in the Entebbe, Uganda, and participants included a large number of government policy-makers, non-governmental organisations, academics and representatives from the private sector. An information session updated the participants on negotiations and discussions in the WTO on trade and environment issues. Separate sessions on (i) market access and environmental requirements (ii) WTO rules and the Biosafety Protocol and (iii) TRIPS Agreement and the Convention on Biological Diversity examined in-country development of these issues. During these sessions, informal working groups considered the constraints and identified strategies for legal, policy and institutional development of these issues in Uganda.
