FIELD Organising Trade Policy Reform Event

SUSTRA - Trade, Societies and Sustainable Development Research Network

The SUSTRA network is based on a multidisciplinary team of 11 partners coming from 6 European countries. It includes economists, political scientists, sociologists, philosophers and lawyers. It is financed by the European Union's 5th Framework Programme under the Key Action "improving the socio-economic knowledge base".

A workshop in 2003 identified various stakeholders within Member States and across the EU that have a vested interest in key sectors such as forestry, energy (climate change), agriculture reform and trade in GMOs. The workshop made an assessment of their influence on trade policy reform in EU institutions and in various international processes, such as the WTO.

European Governance and European Opinions on Trade and Sustainable Development: On June 3-4 2004, lawyers from FIELD attended a two-day workshop in Paris. It was organised by Institut Français des Relations Internationales (IFRI) in partnership with the Trade, Societies and Sustainable Development (SUSTRA) Network. The workshop provided an overall picture of how EU public opinion and governance architecture interact and contribute to shape the EU trade policy agenda.
