FIELD in Bonn - preparing for Copenhagen

FIELD staff are attending the climate change negotiations in Bonn from 1-12 June, which are preparing the UN Copenhagen Climate Change Conference in December. In Copenhagen, countries will be expected to agree on new greenhouse gas emission reduction targets to replace the Kyoto Protocol targets, which are expiring.

In Bonn, FIELD is working with small island states, developing countries and NGOs on questions such as adaptation to climate change and reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation in developing countries (REDD). FIELD has also released a briefing note on 'implementing agreements' in follow up of the US proposal for a new implementing agreement under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Read an interview with FIELD staff lawyer Linda Siegele on the work with small island developing states (available in German only).
