Consultations in Bonn continue

10 August 2009 - FIELD staff are attending the informal international climate change
consultations, which are taking place in Bonn from 10-14 August. The consultations are
an opportunity for governments to advance negotiations on: the ‘revised negotiating
text', a 199-page document under discussion among parties to the Climate Change
Convention.

FIELD in Bonn - preparing for Copenhagen

FIELD staff are attending the climate change negotiations in Bonn from 1-12 June, which are preparing the UN Copenhagen Climate Change Conference in December. In Copenhagen, countries will be expected to agree on new greenhouse gas emission reduction targets to replace the Kyoto Protocol targets, which are expiring.

FIELD's new briefing note entitled ‘An implementing agreement under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - the US proposal and experience with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea' is now available in PDF.

FIELD at Indigenous Peoples Summit

From 20-24 April, 2009, the Indigenous Peoples' Global Summit on Climate Change took place in Anchorage, Alaska. FIELD provided strategic advice on how to bring the concerns of indigenous groups into the climate change negotiations.

Unfair negotiations

Countries are meeting this month in Germany to help decide a new framework to address climate change. But for the most vulnerable nations the talks are far from fair. Read about the difficulties faced by vulnerable developing countries, such as small island states, in the UNFCCC negotiations (by FIELD and IIED).

REDD links with wetlands

Read the new background paper entitled 'Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in developing countries (REDD) - the link with wetlands'. It summarises the importance of wetlands in relation to climate change and examines their potential role in relation to REDD and various international conventions.

Legal options for REDD

REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation) may have severe implications for indigenous peoples and local communities whose livelihoods depend on forests.
