Energy & investment
Energy extraction can have a great impact on the environment and sustainable development, in particular in developing countries.
The relationship between natural resources contracts and sustainable development is receiving increasing attention around the world. The terms of oil and gas and mining agreements need to strike a balance between the interests of investors and the pursuit of sustainable development.
Investment contracts have far-reaching implications for people and the environment. Yet they are poorly understood outside the small circle of lawyers, government officials and corporate executives directly involved in their negotiation. Lack of public scrutiny creates a breeding ground for deals that do not reflect the interests of affected groups nor the public at large.
