Capacity Building for Least Developed Country Negotiators

FIELD and IIED host COP-10 workshop for LDC Negotiators. From 2-3 December 2004, FIELD and IIED hosted a capacity building workshop for junior climate change negotiators from Least Developed Countries in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The two-day workshop brought together over 30 participants to prepare for upcoming climate talks. The event discussed substantive issues on the agenda for the Tenth Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 10), which began on December 6th, and engaged negotiators in a number of briefing and negotiating exercises. Pre-COP Workshop for LDC Climate Change Negotiators: From 26-27 November 2003, FIELD and IIED hosted a Workshop for Least Developed Country Delegates on Negotiation and Implementation of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol. Representatives from over 40 Least Developed Countries (LDCs) were invited to participate in the workshop, which was held in Milan, Italy, prior to Ninth Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP-9). The workshop provided LDC negotiators with background information on the substantive issues on the negotiating agenda for COP-9 and included training in negotiating skills.
