IUCN Guide to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety

FIELD and the IUCN - Environmental Law Centre (IUCN - ELC) have collaborated on producing an explanatory guide to the Biosafety Protocol. The Guide analyses and explains, article by article, the meaning and implications of its provisions.

The aim of the Guide is to raise awareness of the Cartagena Protocol, to aid understanding of legal obligations under it, as well as to facilitate implementation of its provisions. Three consultation workshops were held in Bonn in 2001/2002 to solicit comments on drafts of the Guide.Comments were collected online from April to June 2002, and the Guide has been revised to incorporate these.
