Foundation for International Environmental Law and Development

Advice, Assistance and Advocacy

Giving expert legal advice, assistance and advocacy to a broad range of groups is at the core of FIELD's work, and is reflected in all three programme areas.

FIELD's expertise in international environmental law is sought by governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental organisations from around the globe. Our work ranges from briefing and supporting delegations at international negotiations to producing analysis of the complex relationships between the growing number of international environmental regulations. Wherever possible, FIELD aims to provide these services to those who cannot or should not pay on a pro-bono basis.

FIELD has worked alongside the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) for many years in the climate change negotiations. FIELD's staff produce briefing papers for AOSIS members on the issues under negotiation at the main climate change meetings, as well as being on hand to assist with interventions and submissions during those meetings.

FIELD is often approached by a wide range of NGOs, who need a full analysis of the legal implications of certain international regulations, to inform their campaigns or to help in environmental disputes.
